James Vernon Taylor nació el 12 de marzo de 1948 y es un cantautor y guitarrista. Nació en Boston, Massachusetts.

La carrera de Taylor comenzó a mediados de los años 60, pero encontró su público a inicios de los 70 cantando canciones acústicas suaves y sensibles. Taylor fue parte de una ola de cantautores suaves de ese tiempo, donde podemos incluir a Carole King, Joni Mitchell, John Denver, Jackson Browne entre otros. También podemos encontrar a Carly Simon dentro de esta ola, con quien se casó más tarde. Es un músico talentoso y multipremiado inclusive por la Casa Blanca. Aunque en América Latina no se escucharon muchas de sus muchísimas composiciones, en Estados Unidos, Canadá y Europa siguen siendo muy solicitadas. Músicos de la talla de Steve Gadd y Carlos Vega los han acompañado en sus grabaciones y en sus conciertos en vivo que además se han caracterizado por ser muy positivos.

Su álbum de 1976 Greatest Hits ganó la certificación diamante de la RIAA y vendió más de 11 millones de copias. Taylor ha mantenido un gran público en los años 90 y 2000 tras la reedición de algunos de sus éxitos más vendidos y premiados. (fuente)
